The Moose welcomes you

Mangy Moose Motel

Happy 2017!
The Moose continues to hibernate for the winter, but the
motel will open its doors for the season on April 28th.

You can start planning for your summer get-away now. Book on-line starting January 1, or call the office starting in April to book over the phone.

We continue to make updates to the Moose. This Spring we're working on Room #10, converting it from a room with 2 beds to a suite for two people with 1 king bed and a sitting area. This room will also have air conditioning along with Rooms #1, #2 and the Moose Hus.

If you're looking for a room that can sleep more than two people, look for Room #5 or #7.

Please note that some of the room rates have changed. To help offset this increase, as well as the county's new 0.5% Transit Sales and Use tax, we are dropping our on-line services fee.

We look forward to seeing you in 2017!

A very important word about children and infants

Grand Marais is a wonderful place to bring the family. But please be aware that your child or infant counts toward the occupancy number. So if mom and dad have a little one with them, that's 3 people, and you'll need to book a room that allows three or more people - either #5 or #7.

About "The Moose"

Our friend Gary ( put together a video of the Mangy Moose Motel so you get a feel for what it's like here. Check it out under our Meet the Moose! tab.

You'll find that just out the front door is one of the largest fresh-water lakes in the world; out back is one of the nation's finest wilderness areas. In addition, there are a variety of goings-on in the town of Grand Marais throughout the year.

Whatever you decide to do, you'll need a place to call home while you're here. If you're looking for a clean and comfortable room that's easy on the budget and just a stone's throw from the hub of downtown, reserve your room at the Mangy Moose.  We're located on Highway 61 and 1st Ave East (one block east of the traffic light), which is just a short walk to your favorite shops, restaurants and bars; and only one block from a stroll along Lake Superior.

All rooms are non-smoking for your comfort and health (and because Dave used to work in the field of Public Health). Rooms feature Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs with cable, private bathroom, microwave, small fridge, and coffee maker.

Please check our Guest Book or TripAdvisor to see what our guests are saying about us!

A very important word about dogs
We love dogs, but we've had to remove pets from our available services. It was a difficult decision, but for the sake of our pet-free guests, it was necessary.
